Barbados Agricultural Development And Marketing Corporation

The Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC) was established in 1993 as a Statutory Organization of Government. This organization is an agricultural entity which falls under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture in Barbados.

The functions of the Corporation inter alia are:

  1. To facilitate Government's policy with respect to rural development and land reform;

  2. To stimulate and improve the production, marketing and processing of produce.,

  3. To promote the development of agricultural Co-operative Societies, including the marketing of their produce;

  4. To foster co-operation in agricultural development between the public and private sector, and participate in such agricultural projects as the Minister may approve.

Among the services offered are:

  • Agricultural Extension
  • Irrigation
  • Marketing Intelligence
  • Food Development and Food Promotion

The Land for the Landless Project

The BADMC is at the heart of small farmer development. It assists many prospective farmers, inclusive of students of Agriculture from the Barbados Community College and the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic to acquire adequate acres of land for vegetables, fruits and livestock farming. Under the Land for the Landless Programme, government has leased to farmers more than 1 000 acres of land to small farmers.

In developing agricultural businesses the BADMC has a Food Promotion and Food Development Unit which is used to stimulate the development of cottage industry and other projects.
